Description | PLEASE NOTE: Since this program was announced, an unanticipated technical issue has come up that may impact the planned January 2025 launch. Out of an abundance of caution, we are pausing registration while we address the issue. We will provide an update as soon as one becomes available. The Centennial College Firefighting Principles and Practical Skills Online learning course is designed to provide the learner with the necessary knowledge and practical skills required to successfully obtain a career as a firefighter. The course and program content meet Ontario Fire Marshal, (OFM) curriculum guidelines as recommended by the National Fire Protection Association, (NFPA) across North America. The successful graduate will meet the requirements of fire services hiring requirements by possessing the recognized NFPA 1001 Firefighter I&II, as well as NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations level competencies. The students' academic learning will be completed online, over 4 months. This will include program assessments, lectures, and all reference material. Learners will have access to an online textbook, recorded lectures, practice tests, shared instructor experiences, discussion boards, "What's App" and email, to connect, chat and ask questions of their classmates and instructors. Two weekends, (Saturday & Sunday) in each of the four months will be dedicated to practical fire ground training at the current training site at Ajax Fire Services. The students learning will come together in a dynamic two-week, boot camp style, practical experience where their learning will be assessed on the fire ground, in scenario-based evolutions. **PLEASE NOTE: students will need to enrol in ALL PROGRAM COURSES listed below.** Two weekends, (Saturday & Sunday) in each of the four months will be dedicated to practical fire ground training at the current training site at Ajax Fire Services. The students learning will come together in a dynamic two-week, boot camp style, practical experience where their learning will be assessed on the fire ground, in scenario-based evolutions. The final four days of the two-week boot camp will be dedicated to Provincial Evaluation of their Practical skills and Written testing delivered by Ontario Fire Marshal, (OFM) representatives. Access to obtaining the required DZ class driving license is available for those learners who require that license, as well as practical skills designed to prepare the candidate for the pre-employment testing that is required for individuals to apply for a career in the fire service. Once the learner has graduated, workshops are available on resume, preparation, application tips and interview skills to make the dream of becoming a firefighter a reality.
