Environmental Protection
Course Code | FIRE-108 |
Course Name | Environmental Protection |
Category | Health Professionals |
Description | Hazardous materials are prevalent in our daily lives, both in industry and at home. These materials, while often crucial for various industrial processes and household products, can pose significant risks to our health and safety if not handled properly. These dangerous products necessitate learners to be able to identify the dangerous product and to determine the appropriate offensive and defensive actions to mitigate further harm. When an uncontrolled release or spill of a hazardous material happens, firefighters are the first to respond. The fire service is required to have a more sophisticated level of knowledge in dealing with chemicals and by-products. The threat of the use of chemicals / hazardous materials for illegal reasons has increased. Learners will adopt the skills necessary to formulate a plan to mitigate the exposure to the toxins. This knowledge supports the requirement to have specifically trained firefighters to deal with and mitigate harmful exposures. At the same time learners will use this knowledge to protect their co-workers, community and the environment. |
