Description This course will begin with an introduction to child development considering the ages and stages of young children 0-12 years.
Students will identify practices that will guide children and support appropriate behaviour while promoting the healthy development of confidence and self-esteem. Assisting children with self-regulating strategies will be discussed.

Students will have opportunities to explore and develop experiences and activities for mixed age groups that correspond to both the children's stage of development and their interests.
An examination of the environment will include: how to use space effectively, balance of busy and quiet activities, indoor and outdoor play opportunities.

Discussion based on best practices will be included to explore the use and guidelines for electronic games, internet, use of images, and television in home child care settings.

A focus on utilizing inexpensive materials to create fun, safe, and engaging play materials will be central to this course.
