Description | This course will introduce students to community development. The concept of citizenship and valued participation in community life as it relates to people with intellectual disabilities will be emphasized. Students will learn how to use Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) strategies to strengthen communities and include people at risk for marginalization. Students will also explore the concept of "intentional communities" for people with disabilities. This course moves beyond planning solely for the life of the individual to recognize the potential benefit when strategies are employed to create strong, healthy communities where everyone's contribution is needed. |
