Description This course will introduce you to a variety of person-centered planning strategies. Using a respectful and holistic, person-centered approach you will learn to promote and support self-advocacy and self-determination for people with intellectual disabilities. The goal is to investigate ways that support personal empowerment to achieve the desired lifestyle of the person. You will begin by reviewing the historical context for planning and understand the values that underpin the work. Development of facilitation skills will begin by first understanding and honouring the histories of the people you may engage with in the planning process through a recording of their story. This course forms an important theoretical foundation for the subsequent courses that follow.
