Description Managing Information Technology Projects was designed for IT professionals, project leaders and project team members who wish to learn about the efficient management of technology projects in particular.

The course will use the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) methodologies to teach you the five process groups of project management: initiation, planning, execution, control and closeout as they pertain to information technology. The processes will be taught in the context of IT projects taking place in a fast-paced environment of changing requirements and technologies. Special emphasis will be placed on risk and quality management as well as implementation of monitoring tools and controlling techniques.

Your grade in the course will be based on participation (case work, in-class work, group discussions and attendance), projects, and a mid-term and final exam.

Once you complete Managing Information Technology Projects, you will be able to:

•Understand the role of the project manager in strategic planning and selection of the IT projects;
•Define the IT project scope and the project objectives;
•Break the project into phases and develop a work breakdown structure;
•Define activities, estimate duration for activities and sequence the activities;
•Estimate the IT project costs, budget and control the costs for projects;
•Manage IT project quality including planning assurance and control;
•Define the management process in a project (selecting the proper staff, human resource management processes, importance of communication and team building, and other project management strategies);
•Manage the IT project risks including identification of project risks, quantifying the risks and developing a risk response.
