Management Principles MGMT-222

Course Code MGMT-222
Course Name Management Principles
Category Business
Description Management Principles will place a special focus on management as a field of study and as a discipline that is applied in contemporary business organizations.

As such, you will first survey the general functions of management (planning, organizing, leading and controlling). Once you are comfortable with these concepts, you will participate in the critical analyses of: the larger environment in which the management of business organizations takes place; the approaches to managing people and processes in business organizations; and specific subject areas such as decision making, business strategy, value chain management, organizational structure, global management, corporate culture, managerial leadership and organizational performance.

Because management is an applied discipline, Management Principles will place a strong emphasis on case analyses, and research on particular companies and current management practices of leading firms in a variety of industry sectors. You will also learn through class discussions, written assignments, analytical exercises, tests and more.

The course will offer you the know-how you will need to be confident in:

•Explaining the challenges inherent in the management of large business organizations;
•Identifying and discussing the significance of environmental forces to the management of business organizations;
•Conducting research on business organizations and reporting on particular aspects of their operations and performance;
•Identifying key managerial problems within a business organization, given sufficient information on the organization in question;
•Specifying the elements of the model of rational decision-making and explaining the reasons for deviation from the model in the day-to-day practice of management;
•Elaborating upon the different types of business strategies and the organizational requirements for their successful implementation;
•Identifying the value chain of particular business organizations, and explaining how functional strategies support business strategy and create competitive advantages;
•Identifying the various organizational designs employed in contemporary business organizations and explaining their advantages and disadvantages;
•Evaluating the different approaches to leadership and the managerial activities that correlate with effective leadership;
