Description This course lays the foundation for the profession of child and youth care. It will examine the history and evolution of this profession on the unique role that child and youth care practitioners play in the different life-spaces. Students will explore the five domains of professional practice; understand the importance of relationship building; understand and practice intervention skills; and learn how to work with and appreciate diverse populations. Students will learn about necessary support child and youth care practitioners provide to young people who face issues rooted in oppression, poverty, trauma, mental health challenges, and abuse. 

This course is grounded in child and youth care ethical guidelines and practices, which are explored in conjunction with all interventions.
