|Description||Real Estate 1 is a foundational course that will serve as a base for obtaining an understanding of real estate law in Ontario.
You will become with familiar with the various forms of ownership and interests in land, and how these interests are protected; taxes affecting real estate and different types of mortgage financing; and terminology and documentation used in real estate practice. Specific topics will include: title to property, land registration systems, agreement of purchase and sale of residential real estate, deeds and transfers, and more.
Tests will make up 50 per cent of your final grade, while the other 50 per cent will be split between homework and your final exam. In-class activities will include lectures, discussions, group work, practice exercises and more.
Once you complete Real Estate 1, you will be able to reliably demonstrate a general understanding of:
•The distinctions between different forms of real estate ownership and interests;
•The different types of mortgage financing;
•Statutes applicable to real estate transactions;
•The terminology and documentation used in real estate transaction.
