Description This Individual Counselling course offers an in-depth exploration of the dynamics of individual counselling.

You will examine the various techniques and strategies used in addiction counselling. A systematic view of the human condition is explored as it relates to the issues of health and well being. Other specific topics include: joining and listening, paraphrasing of content, reflection of feelings, psychoanalytic therapy, mindfulness, use and abuse of questions, and more.

Employing a practical approach, the Individual Counselling course includes practice counselling, an initial statement of your counselling stance and a final statement of your counselling stance, reflection papers, quizzes and more.

This course has been approved for studity credit by the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF). Upon completion you will have the ability to:

• Demonstrate effective use of counselling skills utilized in individual counselling: joining, listening, paraphrasing of content, reflection of feelings, use and abuse of questions, summarizing, confrontation, normalizing, reframing, challenging self-destructive beliefs, exploring polarities and enabling the client to make use of his or her strengths;
• Discuss the principles and demonstrate the skills of several approaches to individual counselling: head, heart and soul; person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, Adlerian, Gestalt, feminist and post-modern;
• Discuss the use of mindfulness as a counsellor enhancement when working with individual clients;
• Name your personal approach to working with clients in individual counselling.
Notes Blended Course: a course that blends online/e-learning and classroom delivery. Substantial parts of the content is delivered online, reducing / replacing the amount of face-to-face time. Discussions, team projects, and activities are used for learning.
