Certificate Name Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)
Description This graduate certificate program provides the theoretical and practical experience to teach ESL within Canada and abroad. The program meets the requirements for TESL Canada (Part 1 only) and TESL Ontario (Parts 1 & 2) certification requirements. The key concepts of the program include: linguistic and pedagogical theory, language teaching methodologies, phonetics and phonology, culture, grammar and reflective practice. Students apply the theory through observations and practice teaching of ESL classes. Graduates of this program can pursue employment inside and outside of Ontario in LINC centres, Boards of Education, private schools, colleges and universities.
Admissions Requirements 1. A University degree
2. Non-native speakers of English must have ILETS Academic (overall 7 with a minimum of 7 in each skill area) or TOEFL iBT (overall 101 with a minimum of 23 in Listening , 24 in Reading, 27 in Speaking and 27 in Writing)
3. All applicants must complete Centennial Colleges supplemental application form
