|Description||The Introduction to Home Child Care Centennial College Certificate is intended to provide an introduction to the required knowledge and skills for adult learners currently employed through an agency and/or seeking to operate a high quality, safe home child care in compliance with provincial, federal regulations. Quality childcare flows from best practices across a broad set of skills including: knowledge of current legislations, safe food handling, guiding and supporting children and families, planning and implementing appropriate experiences for young children, time management, communication and financial literacy as it pertains to running a small business.
Students will examine the inter-relationships between caregivers and children and their families, as well as caregivers and their surrounding community. Current legislation will be explored, and opportunities to practice skills in guidance and experience planning will be included. Graduates will understand safety as it relates to providing a safe and secure environment for young children 0-12 years. Nutrition, safe food preparation and handling skills will be developed. Opportunities will include time to examine and develop home child care policies and procedures as well as exploring the benefits of small business.
